Growing Up… What’s Important ?

I have always been older in my mind than I am in age. I was the mature one, the one who would rather plan and get ahead in life than party and not remember what happened last night. I have gained some amazing relationships that have helped further me towards my goals because of my maturity like that, but it also had its drawbacks. When we are growing up we can easily get caught up in whats next and forget about what we need to make the next steps happen.

I am heading into my third year of my bachelor program. I have 2 more years of school then it is time for me to think about big life purchases. Up until now my biggest purchase has been my macbook. That is similar for my classmates unless they have bought a car.

I decided to point out a few items that you might forget about when you are buying your first house or moving out, and growing up! Hopefully this can help you!

First if you don’t have one a good computer is a must for me. I really love my MacBook pro, it is fast, the perfect size and the battery is awesome! These computers are an investment but well worth it. When I graduate I want to get myself a iMac desktop for a real office workspace!

This one is crazy how easy you can forget! A mattress, you’ve had a mattress at home and when I got to residence there is one waiting for me. But when I move out, I probably won’t be taking my mattress from my parents house! I will want a bigger bed! But mattress shopping is no small ordeal, you need to find a good one, something that won’t hurt your back and what works within your budget. Who knew what you sleep on could cost so much! I really like what the casper mattress offer and I feel it is a great price, I also really like the cooling layer they have on top for proper air circulation!

A good pillow is a must for me even now in life. My friends always hate my pillows because I have hard memory foam pillows, I like the support and that it stays cool all night. But pillows are very custom to each person and their comfort. The casper pillows are also a great hit with awesome comfort! It is important to look at replacing your pillows ever 2 years or so to prevent any pain from an old pillow!

Finally a kitchen set, do you have salad plates, dinner plates, bowls, pants, pots, utensils, and everything else you need on the daily? Well, sure I have enough for 1 or 2 people with what I have from university but that won’t work if I am in my own home and inviting people over. I really love this classic white dinner set. If colour is more your taste this set it super cute! They are also on sale right now at crazy good prices!!

These are just a few of the big key items on my radar when I think about saving for large purchases when I graduate! It never hurts to be prepared especially when you need to think about saving money to make these things happen.

If you are getting ready to make these purchases what one has been the hardest for you? If you have already done this what was the biggest purchase for you?

I hope you all have a fabulous Tuesday!

I moved into my first real place last year. I actually got really lucky and a friend had an extra full sized bed she gave me and some interns that were leaving gave me their couch and kitchen table for $60 total! I did purchase a car and that was a big expense. I am looking around for a new computer to buy as well as my macbook is on it’s last leg!

Another thing I think to remember to purchase is a couch. This is an important part for having friends over and chilling somewhere other than the bed…and these things can be pricey too!

By the way, I absolutely love the bedroom! I’m working on styling mine right now. I’m not very good at it. haha

Yes, thee are all necessary investments. My biggest investment to date (I’m 25 now) has been purchasing my car but eventually it’ll be a house and all new furniture.

When I moved out of my tiny NYC studio into a one bedroom with my boyfriend, the biggest items we spent on was our couch and TV. We have a big living room, so we knew it would be the heart of our home. I’m so happy we invested in a big comfy couch and a quality flatscreen! As predicted, if we’re not sleeping, we’re in the living room so they were definitely great investments.

I love everything about this post!! We have very similar style. I am an absolutely lover of the Mac. I have the Macbook Air &, what is great about it is, I am able to take it anywhere and I barely feel it! In general, Macs last for a long time. I went through 3 HP laptops in 10 years. I bought my mac about 5 years ago & it has had NO problems (knock on wood!!).

You are so on the ball thinking ahead! Save up for those big purchases while you can, because the “real world” sure can be expensive.

We LOVE our Casper mattress! It’s seriously so comfy for both of us! Also buying a kitchen set is so nice! Right now we’re using my in-laws old set until we get married and I can’t wait for our new ones!

totally agree about planning and saving for key things. I definitely found that I had so much stuff to buy when it came time to move out – would have been smarter to plan ahead and slowly curate things!

Great post! Usually we overlook some things because we think they’re not that important but really, they are. I really need to invest in a good pillow. I have made quite expensive purchases but not yet a MacBook. Haha. Thanks for sharing S

I’m 32 and I still feel like my Mac was one of my best purchases ever! Great picks!

A couch was a big one for me! I had no idea how expensive couches were. A nice set of pots and pans and a nice set of knives is a good investment, as well 🙂
