Taking Valentine’s Date Night Off Road

Who is excited! Less then one week till the day of love, I guess I shouldn’t get too excited, I will be in classes all day, but it is still a special day at heart. A Valentine’s date night doesn’t have to be on the 14th there is the whole weekend or the week! I know that is what Justin and I try to do since distance separates us on the actual day. It works out well and you can try to avoid some of the high prices and crowds.

I didn’t grow up in the city, I wouldn’t call it the country either. We lived on the edge of town, we have big property and a very quiet area. I like spending time in a quiet place and enjoying the surroundings. I also love the drive in movies, this is what inspired this date night.

Justin’s old truck was the perfect truck for the drive in, it fit a mattress perfectly and it was short enough that we can stay near the front. I was so happy that when he got his new car he kept the truck for his brother to use. And now this makes the perfect truck to use for a picnic lunch or maybe even stargazing! Sadly the drive in doesn’t open for another month and it is a bit freezing here for stargazing!

Now Libby isn’t always with us but I couldn’t turn her away as she loves Justin and loves car rides. I love having her in these photos too 🙂 The best thing about a truck bed picnic is you don’t need much to make it happen! This could even work in the back of an SUV too.

This one had lots of desserts and treats! They were really yummy, it helped Justin find a good reason to come take photos for this 😉 just kidding Justin is always a good sport about photos, he enjoys having them to look back on.

Did you check out the salted caramel brownie recipe I posted last week? Justin really enjoyed them and they are perfect to make for any occasion! What treat would you bring on a picnic?

Libby added a lot of laughs to our date, she of course enjoyed some frosting because I can’t not share! We put her in the cab of the truck because it was 2 degrees out and my little girl was freezing. Of course once she saw that Justin and I were still in the back she pushed herself up against the window because “hey you can’t forget about me” it was so precious that sweet puppy makes me so happy.

I hope this fun idea for a date night will inspire you to do something fun. It doesn’t have to cost you and arm and a leg. Spending time with special loved ones is what it is all about. Showing your appreciation and that time spent together matters. If you do a fun Valentine’s date night I would love to hear about it!

Talk about CUTE! These photos are the epitome of adorable, girly! I love the idea of a truckbed picnic date. My boyfriend and I have often talked about him getting a truck in the future just for these kinds of dates. Our very first ever date, we took a drive all the way out into the less-populated part of my city where there was no light pollution and did some serious star gazing (while there were also stars in our own eyes for each other haha). I’d love to recreate that in the future and do an entire picnic dinner, watch the sun set, and then stick around for the shooting star show! Love this so much!
