My Mom always taught me to dress up whenever I can, even if that means being slightly overdressed. It is better to look great and feel great than be underdressed for a party. Casual holiday looks can work for a night at a friends house, family dinners, or maybe a date night to some festive activities.

Personally I try to stick with pants rather than skirts when I go casual. I am much more comfortable in pants and I feel that I can dress them down if needed. I like to work with dark jeans, preferably black and then I play around with what top I will choose.

In this outfit I chose a lace detailed black and white blouse. This is a great piece to work with when planning causal holiday looks, it worked perfectly with my black jeans and it could be as simple as wearing flats or heels, and the type of earrings that can make this look more casual or more dressy.

I chose to go for heels because I love elongating my legs for party looks! But easily a pair of flats, sparkly or not would look gorgeous with this outfit! The same goes for heels, feel free to wear what you have and what makes this your style.

So to recap the best formula I have for creating a casual holiday outfit is… dark pants + stylish blouse(stick to holiday tones, white, black, red, gold)  + jewelry to dress up or down+ heels for dressy, flats for casual.

The lace blouse is gorgeous! I have a work Christmas party coming up next week so this gives me some idea how to dress up a little without going over the top. I prefer slacks to dresses this time
of year when the weather is cooler!

I totally agree that it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed. Even if I don’t want to wear heels or a nice dress or something, I know that being underdressed will make me more uncomfortable than any piece of clothing could!

I’m in love with that top! It’s so stylish and unique and perfect for holiday parties, I loved the tip you gave about sticking to holiday colors like metallics. I have a metallic tweed blazer that I’ve been wearing for my holiday parties and I absolutely adore it!
