Fall is the most beautiful season, I went for a walk yesterday and was constantly reminded about how gorgeous fall is and how we need to take the time to capture this beauty in fall photos! I always make time to have photos done at the apple orchard and pumpkin patch! I really do love the memories and being able to look back at life through beautiful photos, so today I wanted to share my tips for getting the perfect fall photos!
There are a few key things to plan for when you want the perfect fall photos and then a few tips I had just to make things your own!
Timing of the Shoot
This might be the most important factor when planning your fall photos, if you are going to a pumpkin patch or apple orchard it can get really busy so plan to go right when it opens or plan to go around dinner time. This year we went right in the morning and it wasn’t bad for crowds, last year we went right at dinner time and there was hardly anyone there as everyone had left to go for dinner! Worked out perfectly for us!
Location of the Shoot
Depending on what style and feeling you want for your photos will depend on the location! I am really lucky because the pumpkin patch I like to go to also has an apple orchard and a corn maze on the same property. Most places will be separate, If you want lots of leaves look for a great park with nice lighting, look at places on instagram too it is a good way to find locations!
Photographer
Without a doubt you could bring your own camera and tripod or a friend and take your own photos, but trust me when I say it is amazing to work with a photographer. They are trained to know the right lighting, locations, and making you feel comfortable! Look around your area and find someone who fits the style you want! I love shooting with Brooklyn because she is super talented, but I am also really comfortable with her and so is Justin so its not awkward or stressful!
Outfits
If you are taking photos of yourself great it is easy to put together your outfits, but keep in mind the colours that will be surround you, orange, red, yellow, green, brown so plan accordingly to make sure you won’t clash with the location! If you are doing couples or family, working is colours that work well together personally I don’t like to go all matching, but even playing with mixing patterns can be fun! Also play with layers it is fall and your outfit should match the season!
Additional Tips!
Bring some blankets with you so you can lay them on the ground and sit down, they also look great in a row of apple trees!
Have fun with your photos, laugh, jump, dance whatever makes your photos unique to you! Those are the best moments to capture.
Look for inspiration on Pinterest! It is so helpful to have some posing ideas or location ideas!
Grab some hot apple cider while you are there and enjoy!
I hope these tips help you plan some fall photos its not too late to get out there and capture some amazing memories!
Love all the dappled light!

Your apple orchard shoots were just beautiful, Sydney!! I’m kind of sad I didn’t get to shoot in an orchard here in Vermont this year. (Next year? 🙂 )

I love the idea of bringing blankets! I think it makes for such a personal touch and warms the photo up in an intimate way!
What great tips! Love the time of day and location suggestions. Thanks for sharing!
These tips are awesome and are apparently spot on– your pics came out great!
These are such cute photos! I find timing to be the hardest part. The light is too harsh if you go in the afternoon and everything feels so rushed when you go in the evening. You have to get that perfect lighting before the sun goes down!
When I took pictures at the corn maze this year we got there the second it opened- and thank goodness because those places get soo busy! Great tips!

Love the blanket idea! Our wedding photographer always had one with her! Also I love laughing photos almost better than just smiling ones!
I love how these turned out! Fall is such an underrated time to get professional photos done, and they turned out lovely!

Especially in fall/winter, timing is everything since the sun goes down so much sooner!
I love all of these tips!! I recently got my mom’s old camera to use for taking photos and my sister has volunteered to be my photographer so I’m totally going to send this article her way. I’m so excited to get some quality pics for my blog now! I can’t wait!
