I loved watching my Mom growing up, she was always dressed professionally for work and I loved watching how she would take your classic work wear pieces and make them into a fashionable outfit. I have always admired how my Mom makes office wear look so good! Dressing for work has greatly changed over the years and it can even vary depending where you live in the world! When I started getting into the work world there were so many thoughts I had on how to dress for work, and I have really combined the current work styles with my Mom’s professional approach to how to dress for work!
First off invest in some great dress pants, dress capris, or dark tones jeans. These are the 3 types of pants that I work with when creating a professional work wardrobe. Depending on your workplace you may be able to wear jeans, at my work I could, but my Mom would never wear jeans to work.
Next get great blouses, my Mom is a Queen when it comes to finding a stunning blouse and she always gets it on sale too! She has a variety of tops from designer to basic brands and all of them work. The focus needs to be on how you style them. This blouse is a Karl Lagerfeld blouse that my Mom got and luckily it looks great on both of us! I love living at home in the summer because my Mom and I share tops, well more like I get access to her closet and whatever blouse she isn’t wearing that week! It makes life a lot easier when I dress for work.
When you pair your top and bottom together watch for the shapes created from the outfit, look to see what flatters your body. Do you need a long vest, or cardigan to layer? Paying attention to the little details really helps. My Mom is 5 foot 3inches and very petite, I am 5 foot 7 and we can still wear the same clothes but we style them differently to work with our body types.
To finish off pair your look with shoes that serve a double purpose. First comfort especially if you are on your feet most of the day, and second style especially something that will elongate the leg. My Mom wears a shorter heel and wedges a lot, in the winter some small heeled boots. She finds her flat shoes are worn more casually now. For me I can go either way depending on what my work agenda has that day!
My Mom is amazing at planning jewelry for outfits, and she takes the time to do so, me not so much. Normally she will stop me in the morning and tell me what accessories I should add and I am always thankful for that!
I hope this helps a little bit when trying to plan your clothing and trying to dress for work. If you have any questions that I didn’t clarify please leave me a comment and I will reply!
I hope you all have a fabulous day and thank you so much for making Styled By S apart of your day <3
